This piece is a response to the relationship between high suicide rates and gun-related deaths aiming to highlight the need for conversations and awareness about suicide and gun ownership. Mental health issues still being seen as a taboo is shocking and ridiculous. We need more help and open conversations with less guns and less access to guns.
I painted a toy gun white and glued the trigger squeezed. This plastic representation is an oxymoron symbol for the need for guns in our society. Traditionally seen in black metal as a phallic symbol, I attempt to subvert this notion by painting it white and rendering an already useless object even more so, whilst the figurative bullet has already been triggered.
